OH My Weeds...I mean My Lawn!

OH My Weeds...I mean My Lawn!

What to do with a lawn full of weeds...

Today, my husband I were out surveying our landscaping after a rather mild winter. That last snowstorm did a number on some of my plants, but they will bounce back.I’m confident. I loaded on my first round of Holly Tone today, now that they are going to start pushing growth with the warmer weather and rain.

Our grass, though, ughhhh. It makes me cringe thinking about how much work we have to do. But it will be worth it in the end.We just need to be patient. It’s going to go through a “looking worse than it is now” stage, so I need to prepare my husband.I think we have more weeds than grass right now. First things first, get rid of those weeds! This spring we are going to apply a fast acting lime (calcium) product, Jonathan Greens Mag-I-Cal.I’m also going to have my husband do Step 1- Crabgrass Preventer and Green-up.That will help to get rid of the crabgrass and will green-up the grass that we do have. This won’t get rid of the weeds, though.I think we are going to go with a liquid Weed Killer. Bonide has a couple good ones- Weed and Feed, and Sedge Ender to name a few. I will probably need to use them all! This fall I will plan on bringing in some screened topsoil, raking out the whole lawn and re-seeding.We also live next to a hay field, so I’m not confident that we will ever have a perfect lawn, but we will get it looking much better by next year!
